Quillabamba 3 Days

This trip takes in a dramatic descent from “el Abra Malaga” down to Quillabamba, a quiet typical town nestled in the cloud forest beyond Machu Picchu.

Day 1 - Cusco to Santa Maria

We depart Cusco early in private transport and head to the Sacred Valley.  We pass through Ollantaytambo then begin the climb up to the mountain pass of “el Abra Malaga”.  The climate and vegetation begin to change as we pass into the high altitude puna landscape.  At the highest point we leave our transport and begin the descent on bikes.  The tarmac road ends near the beginning of the cloud forest where we continue onto Santa Maria where we stay the night in a basic hostal.

Day 2 - Santa Maria to Quillabamba

This morning we continue onto Quillabamba, passing through several small quiet towns where we can stop for refreshments.  Today’s ride is on a rough but generall flat road that follows the Urubamba river to Quillabamba.  We arrive into Quillabamba in the afternoon and check into our basic hostal.

Day 3 - Optional Trip to Siete Tinajas, Return to Cusco

This morning you are free to relax in this tranquil town or perhaps visit “Siete Tinajas” nearby to Quillabamba.  This small but spectacular waterfall is set in beautiful gardens near to the Urubamba river.  Later today we return to Cusco by bus.
