Nasca and Paracas Hotels
The desert that lines the coast of Peru south of Lima offers many attractions including the famous Nasca Lines. The Nasca lines are perhaps the most impressive example of a pre Inca culture that is surrounded in mystery as to this day nobody understands how or why these lines and huge figures were carved into the desert landscape. The lines are best seen by taking a flight over the lines in a small aircraft which you can take from either Ica or Nasca.
Closer to Lima, the Ballestas Islands are home to a huge variety of bird and sea life, thanks to the cold Humboldt current that comes from the south. Sometimes referred to as the Peruvian Galapagos, the islands are home to sea lions, penguins and blue footed boobies.
Ica is the main wine and Pisco producing area of Peru, tours and tastings can be easily combined with your trip. At Huacachina there is a picturesque desert oasis surrounded by impressive sand dunes. For a touch of adrenaline you can take a dune buggy ride through the dunes and even have a go at sand surfing!
