Inca Trail 4 Days

4 days / 3 nights camping. Hotel in Aguas Calientes
The Inca trail is a world famous trek for good reason. Challenging and incredibly beautiful with different scenery and vegetation every day, it ishard to beat. In the 90s it became a victim of its own success and was strewn with rubbish and over run with people. In reaction to this the Peruvian government put in strict regulations regarding the number of people allowed on the trail every day, the handling of waste and campsite management.

Day 2 Huayllabamba to Pacamayo

Today takes us from Huayllabamba up to our highest point on the trail, a pass at (4200m) known as Warmihuanusca in Quechua or Dead Woman’s pass. The scenery changes from dense cloud forest to high puna grasslands where Deer can sometimes be spotted. After a rest at the top of the pass we descend the inca steps to our campsite at Pacamayo (3600m).

Day 3 Pacamayo to Wiñay Wayna

We set out this morning with a steady climb up to the small site of Runkuracay. Keep your eyes open for the elusive spectacled bear! From here we keep climbing up to our second pass, (4000m). From here we descend into warmer, more humid territory where orchids, ferns and hummingbirds can be seen. We make a brief stop at the inca site of Sayacmarca, with beautiful views of the valleys and mountains beyond. From here our trail is undulates through the forest with agradual climb up to the third and final pass at 3700m. From here we descend to Wiñay Wayna where we camp for the night.

Day 4 Wiñay Wayna to Cusco

This morning we leave our campsite before dawn, hiking along a wide trail that contours the mountain side. A gently uphill takes us to Inti Punku meaning Sun Gate where, weather permitting we will be rewarded with our first view of Machu Picchu! From here we take the easy downhill trail to the site itself where we will have a 2 hour tour. Afterwards, if you still have the energy you may like to climb Wayna Picchu, or just relax and soak up theatmosphere before we head down to Aguas Calientes town to take the train back to Cusco.

If you have time you may like to spend a night in Aguas Calientes town to allow yourself more time the next morning to spend longer at Machu Picchu. Please contact us to find out more.
